Walk this Pawgust for a good cause

If the winter chill has seen you (and your dog) hitting snooze on your morning walks, PAWGUST might just be the incentive you need to lace up your shoes and rug up in your winter woollies.

Guide Dogs SA/NT is once again calling on dog lovers, casual dog-sitters, and even those lucky enough to live near a friendly neighbourhood pooch to take part in PAWGUST—a month-long walking challenge with heart. Participants commit to walking every day in August, raising funds to support the training and placement of Guide Dogs, and helping those living with low vision or blindness live with greater independence.

“Winter walks bring opportunities for dogs to seek out new smells, new environments, different plants, and the chance to meet different dogs,” says Guide Dogs SA/NT CEO, Aaron Chia.

“Our pet pooches are already wearing their winter coats, and we can all get our winter woollies on to pound the pavement during PAWGUST.”

For those aged 50 and over, PAWGUST offers not only a chance to support a meaningful cause but also an easy way to embrace daily movement during the colder months.

“Research says that just 30 minutes of exercise each day has great physical and mental health benefits,” says Chia. “By braving the cold this PAWGUST, we can raise awareness and funds for Guide Dogs SA/NT.”

Whether you’re a brisk power walker, enjoy a slower scenic pace, or simply love the companionship of a daily stroll with your furry friend, PAWGUST is all about participation. You can set your own goals, track your walks, and even join or create a team with friends, family, or your local walking group.

There are also fun incentives to keep you going—participants can earn rewards like socks, beanies, water bottle bags and even adorable doggie bandanas, depending on fundraising milestones reached.

And for the canine connoisseurs out there? You’ll go in the draw to win a year’s supply of premium Black Hawk dog food, with three prize packs valued at more than $1,500 each.

With more than $50,000 needed to raise and train just one Guide Dog, your steps this August truly can change lives—yours included.
