The July school holidays are about to get a whole lot brighter at Burnside Village as it hosts Sea of Light - a calm, creative and immersive experience presented by Patch Theatre, from July 4-19.
Using a UV torch as their paintbrush, participants can create their own voyage across the sea floor, painting glowing trails and steering ships that leave shimmering paths in their wake.
Throughout the installation, illuminated artworks by contemporary Aboriginal visual artist Elizabeth Close will appear across the floor, accompanied by a gentle soundscape by composer Rob Edwards. These works explore connections between land, sea and waterways, reflecting the diversity of the Australian landscape.
Burnside Village Centre General Manager Jodie Kannane says this promises to be the highlight of the school holidays to escape the winter chill.
“Created by the talented team at Patch Theatre, this vibrant initiative is designed to light up winter by giving children a hands-on, inspiring environment to learn, play, and grow,” she says.
“This experience provides children with a meaningful opportunity to explore creativity and arts education, while allowing families to extend their visit with a range of family friendly meal options available in the Village Dining precinct throughout the school holidays.”
