Adelaide’s LadyBeatles bound for Liverpool’s International Beatle Week

The LadyBeatles, Adelaide’s all-female Beatles tribute band, have been invited to perform at Liverpool’s International Beatle Week this August. The festival, running from 26 August to 1 September, brings together Beatles bands from around the world to play at venues across the city, including the legendary Cavern Club where the original Fab Four cut their teeth.

For a band that started when two teenage Beatlemaniacs were introduced through a friend at school, it’s a significant moment.

“It feels like we’re representing Australia at the Beatle Olympics,” said Kylie Porter, who plays Paul in the group.

Tara Coates, who takes on the John Lennon role, is equally thrilled. “We can’t wait to play at the Cavern, and see where the Beatles grew up. We are so excited to visit Liverpool after so many years of being Beatles nerds.”

From Adelaide to the world

The LadyBeatles formed in the 2000s when Coates and Porter first connected. Sally Hansen (George) and Yahna Pal (Ringo) completed the line-up not long after, and the four have been performing together ever since.

They’ve become Adelaide Fringe Festival regulars over the years, and have played venues across the city, from The Gov to the Adelaide Museum. In 2024, the City of Adelaide invited them to commemorate the 60th anniversary of The Beatles’ visit to Adelaide with a special performance in the Town Hall. They played to a crowd of a thousand, some of whom had been there for the original 1964 visit.

Last year, the band travelled to New South Wales for sold-out shows at Beatlesfest Bathurst, Australia’s dedicated Beatles festival. They’ll be returning to headline the event again this year, stopping in on their way to England.

See them before they go

Before heading overseas, The LadyBeatles are playing two shows at The Wheatsheaf Hotel in Thebarton on Saturday 25 July to kick off the tour and celebrate with local fans and friends. Tickets are available through OzTix.
