Celebrate South Australia’s living artists with SALA

Experience a range of exciting events, workshops and tours at the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival 1 – 31 August.

SALA is an annual, statewide festival of visual art that showcases and celebrates South Australia’s living artists in galleries and non-traditional art spaces throughout the entire month of August.

Recognised as the Australia’s largest and most inclusive visual arts festival, this year boasts more than 10,500 artists and nearly 700 exhibitions and events across more than 620 venues.

Whether you’re a local or a visitor to the region, you can explore the State and Immerse yourself in all that South Australia’s incredible and diverse artists have to offer. Below is a snapshot of some of the experiences available in this year’s Festival:

Drawing Marathon led by Christopher Orchard, Monday 7 – Friday 11 August

A five day intensive life drawing marathon, led by the luminary artist Chris Orchard. Co-presented by SALA Festival and ACSA.

SALA Slide Night, Thursday 3 August

Not at all like your grandma’s slide night, at this special event we hand the microphone to SA artists and see what happens!

Workshops

The Figure: Expressive Ink and Acrylic Painting: Friday 4 August

Artist Kate Kurucz will guide participants through the process of using acrylic ink and oils to create a realistic figure painting.

Live Model Portrait Drawing: Saturday 5 August

A colourful portrait workshop led by emerging artist, Jasmine Crisp. This workshop is suitable for those with minimal portraiture experience

Jewellery Making: Saturday 5 & 12 August

Artist Olivia Kathigitis will guide you through making your own, unique ring in this introductory workshop to lost wax carving and casting.

Artist Studio Bus Tours

Eastside: Saturday 5 August

Take a tour behind-the-scenes at some of Adelaide’s most prominent studio spaces on the east side of the city!

Westside: Saturday 19 August

Join host Ida Sophia on a tour of some of Adelaide’s most loved studio spaces and galleries on the West Side of the city.

Walking Art Tours

SALA Art Tour in Mandarin: Saturday 12 August

Join artist Shirley Wu on this walking tour of art exhibitions in Adelaide. This tour will be presented in Mandarin.

Local and Contemporary Art Tour: Saturday 19 August

Join artist Dr Melanie Cooper for an opportunity to appreciate the incredible contemporary artwork being created by SA artists today.

Street Art Walking Tour 1: Saturday 19 August

Join artist Leah Grant on this walking tour of Adelaide’s walls. Don’t forget an umbrella!

Dog-Friendly Art Tour: Sunday 20 August

You and your canine friend are invited to join us for a meander through the city, taking in some dog friendly art spaces.

First Nations Art Tour: Saturday 26 August

Join artist Tikari Rigney to explore the SALA exhibitions taking place in Tarntanya (Adelaide) featuring First Nations artists.

Street Art Walking Tour 2: Saturday 26 August

Join artist Leah Grant on this walking tour of Adelaide’s walls. Don’t forget an umbrella!
