A major new cultural development is set to transform Adelaide’s CBD, with State Theatre Company South Australia to become part of a landmark Arts & Media Hub on Franklin Street.
Announced by Premier Peter Malinauskas alongside Arts Minister Andrea Michaels and ABC Chair Kim Williams AM, the partnership will see the ABC relocate from its ageing Collinswood headquarters to the Tapangka development site in the city.
The former Adelaide Bus Station site will become a vibrant new cultural centre, bringing together State Theatre Company South Australia, State Opera South Australia and Country Arts SA, just a short walk from Her Majesty’s Theatre.
For State Theatre Company South Australia, the move represents a significant step forward. The new facility will include purpose-built rehearsal rooms, creative spaces and studios designed to support the development of new work, as well as opportunities for closer collaboration with other leading arts organisations.
Backed by a $51 million investment, the project aims to secure ongoing access to high-quality theatre, opera and arts programming for South Australians into the future.
The broader Tapangka development will also include residential and commercial components, creating a precinct where city residents and workers can engage with the arts as part of everyday life.
This new Arts & Media Hub marks a major investment in South Australia’s cultural future, with further details to be announced as plans progress.
