Future Fund Appeal: Investing in South Australia’s history and education

The History Trust of South Australia is building a brighter future by investing in South Australia's history and education through the 2023 Future Fund Appeal.

The History Trust of South Australia is pleased to announce the commencement of its 2023 Future Fund Appeal on Monday 15 May 2023. It was kicked off with $30,000 pledged at a reception hosted at Ayers House last week.

The Future Fund will support a number of History Trust projects, including:

  • Greater access to South Australia’s history through new online education resources for students and teachers for all metropolitan, regional and remote schools.
  • Renewing permanent exhibitions at History Trust museums.
  • Growing and preserving the State History Collection.

The History Trust’s Education digital program has a focus on South Australian history specific content that aligns with the Australian Curriculum.

Minister for Education, Skills & Training, the Hon Blair Boyer MP, said “ The programs developed by the History Trust’s education team are innovative and highlight South Australia’s unique and shared history.

“Understanding our past encourages us to make sense of the present and better informs our decisions for the future,” said the Minister.

Elizabeth Ho OAM, Chair of Trustees at the History Trust of SA said “We want to help students make more sense of place and time here. We want to put ideas and stories in the hands of teachers that can inspire new generations to discover our state, including the 60,000 years before the arrival of SA colonists in 1836 and all that has happened since.”

Donor gifts mean that every year more students will carry forward an understanding and appreciation of South Australia’s past that might otherwise have been denied them” said Elizabeth.

History Trust CEO, Greg Mackie OAM, welcomes all donations to the 2023 Future Fund. “We want to keep building the State History Collection and increase the reach of our Education Programs to all students in South Australia.”

“We want to share South Australia’s stories with the world, and the world starts right here. Any donation to the Future Fund Appeal will help the cause. We are genuinely grateful for any and all donations, regardless of the number of zeros, and we want to give our Museum visitors a fresh experience,”

“The Future Fund Appeal is ongoing – but the end of financial year approaches!” said Greg.
