New chapter for Adelaide’s iconic Mayfair Hotel

Mayfair Hotel, Adelaide.
One of Adelaide’s most loved landmarks, the Mayfair Hotel, is about to begin a stunning transformation. The heritage-listed property will be reimagined and relaunched as Kimpton Mayfair Adelaide - the city’s newest luxury lifestyle destination, opening late 2026.

Built in 1934 and reborn as a boutique hotel in 2015, the 170-room Mayfair has long been admired for its art deco architecture, elegant interiors, and iconic rooftop bar. From mid-December, IHG will take over management, keeping the hotel open as the Mayfair while preparing for an extensive makeover to bring the Kimpton brand’s signature style to Adelaide.

Known around the world for its warm service, creative design, and locally inspired experiences, Kimpton hotels are all about connection and individuality. Each property has its own character, blending comfort with personality — and Kimpton Mayfair Adelaide promises to do just that in the heart of the city.

IHG’s Matt Tripolone, Managing Director for Australasia & Pacific, says the partnership marks an exciting new era for one of Adelaide’s most famous addresses.

We’re thrilled to partner with Ark Capital for the first time and together reimagine one of Adelaide’s most famous hotels. The Mayfair Hotel will be transformed and elevated by the Kimpton brand to offer a boutique luxury lifestyle experience that celebrates Adelaide’s creativity, warmth and sophistication.

Sarah Townson, Managing Director of Ark Capital, says the collaboration will breathe new life into one of Adelaide’s grand dames:

“We look forward to restoring this art deco grand dame to her former splendour, while thoughtfully layering the distinct character of the Kimpton brand within,” she says.

With its blend of heritage charm and contemporary flair, Kimpton Mayfair Adelaide is set to redefine city luxury — offering locals and visitors alike a fresh, modern way to experience one of Adelaide’s most iconic hotels.
