State Opera South Australia has secured two performances of Opera Australia's acclaimed Don Giovanni at Barossa Arts Centre later this month.

State Opera South Australia bringing Opera Australia’s acclaimed production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni to Barossa Arts Centre for two performances only, on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 July.

The season, secured as part of State Opera’s Golden Jubilee celebrations marking 50 years of the company, also coincides with the 30th anniversary of Opera Australia’s National Touring program. Performances take place on Friday 17 July at 7.30pm and Saturday 18 July at 2pm.

Conductor Simon Bruckard leads a cast of exceptional singers and musicians, including a local children’s chorus from Faith Lutheran College. State Opera South Australia Executive Director Mark Taylor said the production marks a welcome return of major touring opera to South Australia, calling it a significant moment for the state on the national stage.

Opera Australia CEO Alex Budd said the milestone reflects three decades of bringing world-class opera to communities across the country, with South Australia playing an important role throughout that history.

Don Giovanni last toured in 2013. This revival brings together director Michael Gow, set and costume designer Robert Kemp and lighting designer Matthew Scott. The opera itself is one of the art form’s most accessible works, blending comedy, thriller and supernatural reckoning as the notorious Don Giovanni’s seductions and schemes finally catch up with him.

The cast features tenors Christian Haotian Qi and Andrew Williams sharing the title role, alongside sopranos Celeste Lazarenko and Jessica Blunt as Donna Anna. Kiran Rajasingam and Stephen Marsh play Leporello, with Tomas Dalton and Shanul Sharma as Don Ottavio, and Cathy-Di Zhang and Jane Magão as Zerlina.
