Created by renowned Berlin-based studio flora&faunavisions, this Adelaide-exclusive interactive exhibition invites audiences to step out of the everyday and into a dazzling, sensory exploration of time.
Becc Bates, CEO of ILA, shares the centre’s vision for innovation: “At ILA, we’re committed to showcasing not only the best of art and technology in Australia, but globally as well. TIMELIGHT: Beyond our ticking world by flora&faunavisions is the first in an exciting new and ongoing program of events at ILA.”
Following the success of EDEN during Illuminate Adelaide 2024, ILA’s partnership with flora&faunavisions continues to raise the bar for digital art experiences.
This ticketed event offers a poetic and powerful 30-minute journey, using light, sound and interactivity to explore the layered meaning of time — making it a perfect outing for those curious, creative and young at heart.
Set within an immersive 110m² gallery of LED screens (that’s over 12.5 million pixels of light and movement), visitors are drawn into a vivid, digital environment where touch, motion, and sound shape their experience. Whether you’re fascinated by science or inspired by art, TIMELIGHT delivers something deeply engaging.
Leigh Sachwitz, Founder and CEO of flora&faunavisions, describes it beautifully: “It is a sensory reminder that time is not just what moves us forward, but what connects us to everything.”
A journey in three captivating chapters
TIMELIGHT is structured around three immersive chapters, each offering a different perspective on our relationship with time:
Chapter One: Capturing Universal Time
Step into a glowing universe of floating spheres and cascading light trails. Here, time becomes abstract — something to wonder at rather than measure.
Chapter Two: Inside The Clock
Feel the heartbeat of time in this giant time machine, where gears tick and rhythms pulse. An interactive game invites visitors to explore the push and pull between chaos and control — something all too familiar in our modern lives.
Chapter Three: Time In Circle
Finally, time slows. Through the power of touch, watch trees grow, shadows shift, and humanity age — a meditative close to the experience, evoking the quiet beauty of nature’s cycles.
A space for reflection and connection
After exploring the digital installation, visitors can head to the gallery’s community wall, where everyone is encouraged to share their own definition of time. With each message added, the collective story deepens — sparking thought, conversation and connection across generations.
To complete your visit, enjoy a bite or sip in the adjoining café, featuring a curated snack menu and specialty cocktail list by the acclaimed Aurora Restaurant team. For something extra special, book in for a pre- or post-show dinner downstairs at Aurora (available Friday and Saturday evenings only) — a perfect pairing of fine dining and artistic wonder.
TIMELIGHT: Beyond Our Ticking World premiers at ILA (63 Light Square, Adelaide) on Friday, 26 September, from Wednesday to Sunday during school holidays. Refer to website for times. Bookings here.
