Illuminate Adelaide returns this July with a city-wide program of light, art, music and immersive experiences transforming winter in Adelaide.

Adelaide’s winter calendar comes alive once again as Illuminate Adelaide returns from 1–19 July 2026, transforming the city into a vibrant playground of light, art, music and technology.

With more than 100 experiences across the program, including 11 world premieres and 11 Adelaide exclusives, the 2026 festival invites audiences to explore the city in new and unexpected ways. From large-scale interactive installations to intimate performances and immersive dining, Illuminate continues to redefine winter in South Australia.

A major highlight this year is the Australian debut of Augmented Games by global creative studio Moment Factory. Taking over the Ridley Centre at Adelaide Showground, this large-scale interactive experience turns players into the controller, blending physical movement with digital gameplay in a life-size arcade environment.

Illuminate - Night Visions

Returning favourite Night Visions will once again transform the Adelaide Botanic Garden into a mesmerising after-dark journey. Visitors can wander through a reimagined landscape of light, sound and projection, with the option to enhance the experience with curated dining at Botanic Lodge.

New for 2026, Digital Abyss by renowned French artist Miguel Chevalier invites audiences into an immersive underwater world. Presented at Immersive Light and Art (ILA), the installation uses AI-generated ecosystems that evolve in response to human interaction, creating a poetic fusion of nature and technology.

Families and visitors alike will be drawn to Universal Kingdom: Ice Age at Adelaide Zoo, the final instalment in the popular series. Featuring prehistoric creatures brought to life through large-scale puppetry and illuminated installations, the experience blends storytelling, science and spectacle.

Across the CBD, the free City Lights trail expands further than ever, stretching into Rymill Park and featuring more than 50 installations, projections and performances. From interactive works to towering illuminated figures, the trail invites audiences to explore the city after dark at their own pace.

Music remains a cornerstone of the program, with Unsound Adelaide delivering experimental performances from leading international and local artists, alongside Supersonic, a one-night immersive club experience at Hindley Street Music Hall.

Beyond the art, Illuminate Adelaide’s food and beverage offering has been reimagined, placing local venues at the centre of the experience. From curated dining events to the returning Illuminate Hosts program and City Lights Pitstops, audiences are encouraged to eat, drink and explore throughout the festival.
