The Importance of Being Earnest, State Theatre Company SA

Location

Dunstan Playhouse
Adelaide Festival Centre, Festival Dr, Adelaide

22 May 26

State Theatre Company South Australia opens the newly refurbished Dunstan Playhouse with Oscar Wilde’s beloved comedy, directed by Artistic Director Petra Kalive and performed by an entirely South Australian cast.

Beloved for its wit, satire and gleeful skewering of Victorian respectability, the play follows two young men, Jack and Algernon, who create elaborate alter egos named “Ernest” to escape social obligations and pursue love. When their deceptions unravel, chaos ensues in a world where truth is slippery and appearances are everything.

Fast, furious and wickedly funny, with an entirely South Australian cast serving up the very best talent with teeth, sparkle and a whole lot of nerve. Prepare yourself for a bold and joyful night at the theatre.

Dates: 8–30 May 2026

Location: Dunstan Playhouse, Adelaide Festival Centre
