Adelaide Festival Centre’s Angry Penguin restaurant is serving up one of the city’s best-value lunches: two courses and a glass of South Australian wine for $59, overlooking Karrawirra Parri (River Torrens).
Available Wednesday to Saturday from 12pm to 3pm, the menu comes from Executive Chef Alex Katsman and celebrates European technique with South Australian produce.

What’s on the menu
Starters include smoked beef tartare, kingfish with pickled sunrise lime, calamari with white miso and charred spring onion, and heirloom baby beetroots with silken cream and pomegranate.
Mains range from snapper Niçoise salad to lamb shank Bourguignon, confit duck leg with carrot and kohlrabi, and chargrilled eye fillet with its signature Yorkshire pudding. Some menu items are available at an additional cost.
Each lunch includes a glass from a selection of South Australian wines.

The setting
Angry Penguin takes its name and spirit from the modernist movement championed by Adelaide poet Max Harris. The restaurant channels South Australia’s rich arts history and the creative legacy of artists including Sidney Nolan, Joy Hester and Arthur Boyd.
Original artworks hang throughout the space, including Sidney Nolan’s portrait of the fictitious Ern Malley. The furniture is by award-winning South Australian designers Andrew Carvolth and Jon Goulder. Combined with the river views, the interiors make for a dining experience that feels distinctly Adelaide.
