Seafood & Sounds sails into the Adelaide Central Market

The Adelaide Central Market will host Seafood & Sounds over a two-day celebration of South Australian seafood on Friday 27 October and Saturday 28 October 2023.

Back by popular demand, this highly anticipated event returns with street eats and seafood specials from traders, accompanied by a program of live music, cooking demonstrations by some of South Australia’s top chefs, popup oyster bar and the ever-popular Chilli Crab Shack.

New to Seafood + Sounds this year is SiSea x Golding Oyster Bar. The Market’s flamed grill and tapas eatery, SiSea, will be running a pop-up oyster bar serving up fresh Coffin Bay oysters and Golding Wines.
Customers can also try SiSea’s speciality dishes, including Eyre Peninsula wok fried mussels, tempura prawns and the classic SA Prawn Cocktail.

SiSea owner Mark Gleeson said, “The Adelaide Central Market is home to South Australia’s world class seafood offer – there’s no better place to shop and dine in one place.”

Adelaide Central Market Authority General Manager Fabienne Reilly said past Seafood + Sounds events have been a huge success, showcasing South Australia’s world class range of seafood to Market shoppers.

“Seafood + Sounds is a highlight of our events calendar, showcasing outstanding local produce, passionate traders and a vibrant Market community found nowhere else. Events like this continue to show the diversity of our Market and strengthen the connections between our customers and our traders,” says Fabienne.

Market customers can also learn from the best with demonstrations by Restaurant Botanic Executive Chef Justin James and Tasting Australia Co-Festival Director and Co-Owner and Chef of The Salopian Inn, Karena Armstrong alongside Mandy Hall, where you’ll learn how to cook-up affordable local seafood that families will love.

What is now an icon of Seafood + Sounds, the ever popular and two-day only Chilli Crab Shack by Sprout will return. Customers can enjoy mouth-watering Asian-style chilli crab using local Market produce and fresh SA blue swimmer crabs. Armed with an oversized crab bib, customers are encouraged to dig in and get messy, as they enjoy a local gin, live music and Market vibes. Visitors are encouraged to secure their serve before the event by booking online as they sell-out every year.

Market traders will also be joining the event with a range of special offerings available across the two-day event. Think Seafood Laksa, Octopus Pizza, Poke Bowls and Spaghetti Vongole. Customers will be entertained with jazzy tunes by local musicians Jazz in Cheek, the Atlantic Street Band, Brian Ruiz, Melange a Troi and Lenin Marron Duo.

For the little shoppers, kids can enjoy a free sea creatures art workshop by Little Picassos and free sea face
painting on the Saturday morning.
