Septimus House of Cheese & Wine launches Adelaide Cellar Door Collective

A red brick building with a classic architectural design and large windows.
Since opening its doors in April, Septimus House of Cheese & Wine has quickly become a vibrant hub for wine appreciation in the heart of the city. Now, the venue is making its mark with an innovative initiative set to give emerging regional winemakers a foothold in the CBD.

Through the newly launched Adelaide Cellar Door Collective, Septimus is partnering with small and family-owned wine brands — including Eisenstone Wines, Tribus Wines, and Hoffman Family Vineyards — to bring a rotating selection of cellar door experiences to one convenient city location.

Tribus Wines.

For owner Ian Coker, it’s all about opening doors — both figuratively and literally.

“This city cellar door concept is something that I have been working on for quite some time,” he says.

We want to give businesses an opportunity and be a part of nurturing a new collection of wine makers and wine brands, giving them a platform and venue to showcase and sell their wines.

With a background in hospitality and a long-standing love of South Australian wine, Ian’s vision brings a fresh approach to city wine tasting — one that puts the winemakers front and centre, and lets patrons discover new labels without the need for a road trip.

For some producers, like Stephen Cook, winemaker and owner of Eisenstone Wines in the Barossa, it’s a much-needed model for connecting with customers.

“As an owner and a winemaker, there is a delicate balance between production and retail,” Stephen says.

“By offering a flexible, low-barrier path to the market, Septimus is helping emerging brands build followings, exposing our wines to a greater audience and helping drive direct-to-consumer sales, all from a centrally located venue that wine lovers are already seeking out.”

We have the wine. We have the skill. What we don’t have is time, staff, or a place to sell beyond bottle shops.

Unlike traditional cellar doors, the Adelaide Cellar Door Collective offers a more dynamic and accessible experience. Wine lovers can enjoy tasting flights from the featured wineries, paired with Septimus’s signature cheese and charcuterie boards — all while engaging directly with the winemakers themselves during in-venue pop-ups and events.

The initiative aims to build a community of like-minded wine lovers who not only enjoy the final product but want to support the stories and hands behind the bottle.
