For one day only, on Friday 13 June, guests are encouraged to bring along their own jewellery pieces — heirlooms, forgotten trinkets, or intriguing vintage finds — for a personal, expert evaluation. The event is reminiscent of the beloved television series, but with a touch of Adelaide charm and in the capable hands of one of Australia’s most respected jewellers.
As Justin McCabe explains, “We are inviting people to experience the joy of discovery at our Antique Jewellery Roadshow, held exclusively at our Adelaide Arcade store. Whether it’s a family heirloom or a curious find in your jewellery box, we are encouraging people to bring them into the store so we can help you discover the untold tales hidden within your jewels.”
On the day, Gerard McCabe’s team of antique specialists will be offering 15-minute consultations, lending their seasoned eyes to unravelling the provenance and value of your jewellery. With decades of expertise, their insights can turn a forgotten piece into a newfound treasure.
And as history has shown, some of these stories come with dazzling surprises.
One guest unknowingly brought in Fabergé dangle earrings — featuring diamonds and rich red guilloché enamelling in 14k gold. The earrings were identified as the work of famed Russian master Julius Alexander Rappoport (1851–1917), signed with his distinctive “I.P.” hallmark. The piece, in pristine condition, was valued at over $40,000.
Another visitor brought in a 1920s Art Deco ladies wristwatch, water-damaged and unassuming. During restoration, it was discovered to be a Rolex, crafted in the style of luxury maisons like Van Cleef & Arpels. Once fully restored, its value exceeded $20,000.
Whether you’re a collector, a lover of fine things, or simply intrigued by what may lie hidden in your own jewellery box, this is an opportunity to step into a world where history and beauty intersect.
