Helping Hand has officially begun a $22 million redevelopment of its Yeltana and Copperhouse Court residential care homes in Whyalla, expanding services to help more locals age in place.

A major redevelopment is underway in Whyalla, with Helping Hand marking the start of a $22 million upgrade that will help more locals age in place.

The milestone event, held at Yeltana Residential Care Home, celebrates the beginning of an extensive redevelopment of both Yeltana and Copperhouse Court Residential Care Home.

Whyalla is currently experiencing high demand for aged care services, and the project is designed to ensure more residents can access quality care close to home, family and community.

The redevelopment includes the addition of eight new residential care rooms, six at Copperhouse Court and two at Yeltana. Existing resident rooms and amenities will also be upgraded, alongside the creation of flexible dining and activity spaces and enhanced outdoor areas.

As the only residential care provider in Whyalla, Helping Hand plays a significant role in the local community and remains one of the region’s largest employers. The long term benefits of the redevelopment are expected to support both current and future residents, while strengthening local services and employment.

Helping Hand Chief Executive Officer Chris Stewart said the project had been carefully considered and planned.

After much consideration and careful planning, we are delighted to see this redevelopment get underway. Thanks to the support of the Australian government, we are expanding our services and ensuring that more Whyalla residents can age in place, close to their family and community,” he said.

The official event will include a Smoking Ceremony and a ceremonial turning of the sod to mark the beginning of construction works.
