Suzi Quatro, the Detroit-born bassist and singer who helped define the sound and swagger of 1970s rock, is returning to Australia for a national tour later this year. South Australian fans can catch her at Seppeltsfield Wines in the Barossa Valley on Saturday 5 December as part of the Red Hot Summer Tour.
The Barossa date features a lineup that reads like a who’s who of Australian rock: Jon Stevens, Baby Animals, Screaming Jets and Rose Tattoo will all take the stage alongside Quatro.
Quatro’s influence on rock music is difficult to overstate. She was one of the first women to front a rock band as a bassist and lead singer, carving out a space in a genre that had been almost exclusively male. Dressed in her trademark leather jumpsuit and wielding a bass guitar, she wasn’t simply participating in rock music. She was reshaping it.
Her 1973 single “Can the Can” reached number one worldwide, followed by hits including “48 Crash,” “Devil Gate Drive,” and the US duet “Stumblin’ In.” To date, she has sold more than 55 million records.
Beyond music, Quatro has built a career across multiple creative fields. She appeared in the cult television series Happy Days and starred in London’s West End production of Annie Get Your Gun. Since 1999, she has hosted radio programs on BBC Radio 2 and was nominated for a Sony Radio Award. The 2019 documentary Suzi Q explored her life and legacy, and her new studio album Freedom was released in 2026.
