From a young gymnast taking her first leap of faith in an Adelaide studio to performing in a world-class cabaret production, Olivia Baker’s journey is proof that extraordinary careers can begin right here in South Australia.
For the past ten years, Olivia has trained at Aerial Artists Adelaide, progressing from a dedicated young student into one of the state’s emerging professional aerial artists. Today, she stands alongside fellow South Australian performers Natalie Chudleigh and Lauren Bird in Zerial, an original aerial cabaret spectacular proudly created in Adelaide.
Created by producer and creative director Craig Hryhorec, Zerial is the evolution of the internationally acclaimed production Le Aerial. First developed in South Australia, Le Aerial premiered at the Adelaide Fringe before touring Australia and New Zealand, selling out performances at the Sydney Opera House. Now, Zerial builds on that legacy while celebrating a new generation of South Australian artists whose careers have been nurtured entirely within the state.
A decade of local training
For Olivia, the production represents more than a professional milestone. After beginning her sporting journey in gymnastics, she discovered aerial arts as a child and has spent the last decade refining her craft through Aerial Artists Adelaide. Her journey reflects the vision behind the academy: creating pathways for young South Australians to pursue careers in the performing arts without leaving home.
Since opening its doors in 2013, Aerial Artists Adelaide has provided opportunities for hundreds of students to discover aerial arts, with many progressing from recreational classes to professional productions, corporate events and national touring shows.
“One of the most rewarding parts of creating Zerial is watching young performers grow into accomplished artists,” said creator Craig Hryhorec. “Olivia’s story is exactly why we do what we do. She walked into our studio as a young gymnast with a dream, and today she’s performing at the highest level alongside an incredible cast of international artists. That’s something we’re immensely proud of.”
An exceptional ensemble
Zerial features an exceptional ensemble led by internationally celebrated French Cirque du Soleil artist Arnaud Caizergues, alongside Dancing with the Stars favourites Craig Monley and Sriani Argaet, Helpmann Award-nominated musical theatre star Teagan Wouters, and acclaimed Australian tenor Mark Oates. Together, the cast unites performers whose collective credits span musical theatre, opera, dance and world-renowned touring productions.
With a legacy that stretches from Adelaide Fringe to sold-out performances at the Sydney Opera House and international touring, Zerial continues to showcase South Australian creativity on the national and international stage.
