The Mill’s annual fundraiser exhibition LIMITLESS returns for its third year this September, featuring over 200 South Australian artists across the gallery walls at Angas Street.
Running from 16 September to 9 October, the exhibition has established itself as a significant event in South Australia’s visual arts calendar. This year introduces four new artist awards totalling $2,000, sponsored by Fuller, CBS Inc, Scotch College and K&S Langley Family.
“LIMITLESS is fast becoming a well-recognised and integral exhibition in the South Australian visual arts ecosystem, featuring and supporting South Australian artists and having real impact on the development of their careers,” says The Mill CEO and Artistic Director Katrina Lazaroff.
A broad spectrum of talent
The exhibition spans the full range of artistic experience, from art school students through to established names. All artworks remain anonymous during the exhibition, with artists’ details revealed to buyers at the close.
Artist Hamish Fleming sees this as part of the appeal for collectors. “It’s a good opportunity for people to get into collecting art, because you’ve got such a broad array of genres on show all at the same time. The pricing is pretty accessible and you’ve got emerging artists mixed in with seasoned professionals.”
He adds: “So many artists pull out weird and different works to what they usually do, which is a rare opportunity. Usually, you’d have to get into someone’s studio to access that.”
The exhibition features A5 artworks priced at $100, alongside a selection of larger works from The Mill’s studio artists, program alumni and invited contributors.
Supporting local artists
The Mill Visual Arts Curator Adele Sliuzas emphasises the exhibition’s role in sustaining South Australia’s creative community. “Artists at all levels need more support than ever. LIMITLESS opens the door for artists to sell work and reach new audiences, while concurrently supporting The Mill to continue to give crucial year-round support to creatives.”
Artist Lucinda Penn, who recently joined The Mill’s studio community, sees the exhibition as a chance to break down barriers. “It’s so great to have so many artistic styles in one gallery, removing the barriers that normal exhibition programs can bring.”
Opening party and key dates
The opening party on Friday 18 September offers two sessions: 5pm to 6.30pm and 6.30pm to 8pm. Food comes from GANG GANG, with drinks from The Mill’s Brand South Australia bar. Priority access tickets cost $10 and include $10 off an artwork purchase (limited to one per person).
A free Finissage and Awards Night takes place on Friday 9 October from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.
