Foodbank SA and Central Australia are launching a new innovative program. Hospo Hereos aims to improve the social impact of the hospitality industry and give back to the community for those experiencing food insecurity.
FIFTY+SA Food Editor, Mandy Hall, has partnered with Foodbank SA and created the Hospo Hereos program that was launched yesterday. “The program’s one and only aim is to feed hungry people, people who right now, cannot feed themselves,” says Mandy.
The programs purpose is to reduce hunger and food waste in South Australia. It urges the hospitality industry to be a part of the solution of ending hunger in SA. The concept is simple – leftover produce gets turned into meals for Foodbank to supply to the many people facing food insecurity in our state.

“Cook up your venues leftover produce, turn it into a meal and pop it into a supplied container and into the freezer. And Foodbank will come collect it from you,” says Mandy.
Foodbank is a national organisation fighting hunger by sourcing food for people in need. In South Australia, 130,000 households will seek food relief this December.
Along with the new Hospo Hereos program, Foodbank SA and ABC Radio are running ABC Gives Food Drive during November and December, with the aim to raise 130,000 meals for SA households in need this Christmas.
Help end hunger this holiday season by making a donation online or bringing food contributions to participating locations.
