A new audio tour brings the Marion Coastal Walkway to life

Fourteen episodes of local stories, Kaurna history and wildlife await along one of Australia's most spectacular coastal walks.

From prehistoric giants to hidden wildlife and the engineering behind those spectacular suspension bridges, the City of Marion’s Coastal Walkway has stories to tell. A new audio tour launching this month invites walkers to hear them.

The Coastal Walkway Audio Tour features 14 episodes that bring this stretch of coastline to life through the voices of local experts, artists, scientists and community members. Simply scan the QR codes along the walkway to hear stories about the area’s rich Kaurna history, remarkable geology, native wildlife and public art.

“We already have one of the most spectacular coastal walks in Australia, but now there’s another exciting way to explore it,” Mayor of Marion Kris Hanna said.

The launch event

The tour officially launches on Sunday 8 November with a community walk from Marino Rocks to Hallett Cove. The morning kicks off at 8.30 am at Marino Rocks Café with a guided 4 km walk led by Emma from Bored Adelaide, finishing at The Boatshed in Hallett Cove for the official launch at 10 am.

At the launch, you’ll have the chance to meet some of the voices behind the tour, enjoy refreshments and take in those coastal views. A free community bus will return walkers to Marino Rocks until midday.

The walk includes stairs, steep sections and uneven surfaces, so a reasonable level of fitness is required. If the full walk isn’t for you, head straight to The Boatshed from 10 am to join the celebrations.
