Some places you need to see in every season, and McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Coast is one of them.
Rolling vineyards, stunning coastline and a food and wine scene that genuinely rivals anywhere in the country, all just 40 minutes from Adelaide.
Winter here is an invitation to savour the moment. Settle in by the fire with a glass of McLaren Vale wine, linger over a long lunch, discover a new favourite gin or craft beer, or wander through charming villages where galleries, cafés and local produce are never far away. The coast has its own quiet magic in winter too. Rug up and walk the spectacular beaches of Aldinga or Sellicks Beach, follow the Witton Bluff Base Trail as waves roll below, or take the scenic route along Route 31 Coastal Drive.

But events here in winter are also special. McLaren Vale was recently recognised as the number one festival and destination in South Australia, and it earns that title with a rich calendar over the coming months. The prestigious Fleurieu Biennale Art Prize runs until 5 July 2026, bringing exhibitions, masterclasses and creative experiences to venues across McLaren Vale.

For food lovers, it’s the season of indulgence. Smokin’ Brews Festival this June long weekend in Aldinga is for connoisseurs of meat, craft beer and live music. In August, Fleurieu Food Festival celebrates local flavours across the region, with long lunches, vineyard feasts, hands-on workshops and chef-led events showcasing the best seasonal produce and the people behind it.

A Saturday morning visit to the Willunga Farmers Market is another winter favourite, with fresh bread, local cheese, seasonal produce and hot food from some of the region’s best farmers and artisan producers.
And as winter turns to spring, save the date for Grenache & Gourmet, McLaren Vale’s celebration of Grenache, local food, long lunches and premium wine experiences from 18 September to 5 October 2026.
When it comes to staying a little longer, choose from vineyard retreats, beach houses, cosy cottages with wood fires and boutique stays within easy reach of cellar doors, cafés, beaches and walking trails.
However you like to winter, by the fire, by the sea, over a long lunch or somewhere new, you’ll find your place in McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Coast.
