A taste of nostalgia at Adelaide Central Market’s newest eatery

Smiley's Tuckshop is bringing back the flavours of the past to the Adelaide Central Market.

Smiley’s Tuckshop is a new eatery located at Stall 11 in the Adelaide Central Market. Inspired by milk bars and delis from the past, Smiley’s focuses on made-to-order meals that can be enjoyed on-the-go.

The menu features products sourced from South Australia and the market itself, offering items such as house-made bacon and egg rolls, meatball loaf subs, toasties, and milkshakes made with Golden North ice cream. For those with a sweet tooth, Smiley’s provides classic milk bar treats like iced donuts, bags of mixed lollies, and killer pythons. Additionally, they offer a seasonal menu for Friday night dinner, featuring dishes like mac and cheese with peas and chili con carne.

Jodie Kannane, the General Manager of the Adelaide Central Market Authority (ACMA), expressed excitement about the opening of Smiley’s, stating that it brings a new on-the-go option for market customers. It provides an opportunity to showcase local produce and gives customers the chance to eat while doing their weekly shopping.

The owners of Smiley’s, Bill and Emma Howison, who also run the popular House of Organics Stall, are proud to open their second stall in the market. They aim to provide a fast-paced, to-go experience with quality food and specialty modern coffee at fair prices. According to Mr. Howison, Smiley’s focuses on producing nostalgia food—classics that people know and love but may have trouble finding elsewhere. The food is full of flavor, designed for grab-and-go style dining, and offered at reasonable prices.

Smiley’s is open for early breakfast from 6 am, serving lunch and all-day dining, and provides dinner service until 9 pm on Friday nights.
