Enjoy Africola at home thanks to the most anticipated new venue of 2022, Africola Canteen, which has just opened on The Parade in Norwood.

Africola Canteen is the casual dining hot spot where you can drop in to take out a revolving list of Africola’s greatest hits and future classics from Head Chef Joel Tisato and Owner Chef Duncan Welgemoed.

Africola’s sibling eatery showcases the fresh and colourful veg- and grain-forward flavours of Duncan’s world-famous cult restaurant in a welcoming casual space that feels like home.

Duncan says, “Canteen ups the game for casual dining and takeaway. We are super excited to join our mates on The Parade with something truly different that will complement what’s already on this much-loved strip. Drop past to grab salads and canteen classics to take home, sneak back to work or be the hit of your family BBQ.”

All dietaries and lifestyles are catered for at Canteen; the best seasonal vegetables, good fats, and really fun canteen favourites can be found on the two main menus: ‘Salad’ and ‘Not Salad’.

Diners can choose up to three counter salads (from a rotating selection of 50) to enjoy in various sizes.

The Not Salad items are jam-packed with African-ish, Mediterranean-ish, Middle Eastern-ish and 80s family dinner-ish flavours, including: ‘Hummus, Lemon braised Chickpeas and Crudités’, ‘Maple-glazed  Pumpkin Spice Cake’ and Salted Pepita Brittle’ as well as iconic 80s dishes ‘Glazed Meatloaf’ and  ‘Zucchini Slice’; which both come with counter salads.

Then there is the soon-to-be cult favourite, the $10 Canteen Cup-o-Soup, which will change weekly, and can be enjoyed with one of Australia’s best non-alcoholic drinks list with a range of shrubs, organic sodas and kombuchas on offer, while Africola’s famous condiments, including the Mpumalanga Fire Sauce, will finally be available to purchase.

Joel says, “we’re all looking forward to welcoming everyone to Africola Canteen. This is everyday Africola but where the food and drink are on another level for stuff designed to take away. Our loyal Africola customers will, of course, love Canteen but so will people who have never visited us in the city – this is for fans new and old.”

Open from 10.30am to 7pm every day, everyone’s welcome at Africola Canteen.
